babyMartyn training

Multiple Procedures on Each Skull

The babyMartyn are designed for many procedures on the same model, room temperature storage for up to one year allows for training over time if needed. It's recommended training take place in a surgical theatre; the foam cradles are designed to hold the head in a range of positions so skull clamps are not required.

Help You Progress in Training

Purchasing a babyMartyn will speed your training by providing you experience performing simulated peadiatric procedures. Your trainer will be able to discuss the procedures shown in our videos and allow you to perform them with their supervision to examine your technique.

Simple Room Temperature Storage

Room temperature storage for up to one year allows for training over time if needed. The foam cradles included for delivery to you are designed to hold the head in a range of positions so skull clamps are not required.

Two on One Study

In training courses run in the UK, two trainees performed procedures on the same babyMartyn in the way dissection cadavers are shared. Our publications show this is an effective study method.

Validation of Trainnig Effectiveness

Validation of improvement in surgical techniques from training on the babyMartyn was published in Journal of Neurosurgery 2018.

Endoscopy and New Procedures

Inserting an endoscope to visualise the ventricle can be performed on the current babyMartyn. A manufacturing procedure for anatomically accurate ventricles that are fluid filled, like the current models, has recently been developed. That will allow effective training of endoscopic procedures of the ventricles such as ventriculostomy and septal fenestration.

Skin and Additional Pathologies

A skin covered babyMartyn is in development as is skin covering just the fontanelle. In future we plan to model custom placed tumours / congenital conditions in order to train specific procedures.

babyMartyn Torso

In order to train ventriculo-peritoneal shunt procedures the babyMartyn research group has developed a paediatric half-torso. Training was validated in 2019.
